A note from the editors:

We at Worldwide Challenge offer the following resources to you as an addendum to our section on world religions. We want to help equip you as you trust God to reach people with the truth of Jesus Christ.

Just remember, preparation is good, but ultimately, successful evangelism is just taking the initiative to share Jesus Christ in the power of the Holy Spirit and leaving the results up to God. More important than you preparing for an evangelistic conversation is you taking the initiative to have an evangelistic conversation.

Tell us how it goes! worldwide.challenge@ccci.org

Hinduism:
  • Want person-to-person advice on how to witness to Hindu neighbors? Contact Campus Crusade for Christ staff member, Cathy Douglass, associate director of California Hindu Project (a new ministry with Campus Crusade for Christ) by e-mail californiahinduproject@ccci.org.
  • Sharing Your Faith with a Hindu, by Madasamy Thirumalai, Bethany House Publishers.
  • How to Present Christ to a Hindu, by R.C. Das. A helpful little booklet on sharing one's faith with a Hindu neighbor in a culturally appropriate way. Background and pointers included.
  • A Primer of Hinduism, by J.N. Farquhar, Asian Educational Services, 1993, pp 222, hardback. A missionary scholar writes an engaging history and analysis of Hinduism, very readable to the novice. Includes enlightening passages from various Hindu scriptures.
  • The Story of My Experiments with Truth, by Mahatma Gandhi, Navajivan, 2001, pp 420, paperback. Gandhi remains a powerful symbol in India. His struggles with Christianity are a major part of this striking autobiography, and his problems echo those of many Hindus today. Essential reading for Christians who want to understand Hinduism.
  • The Christ of the Indian Road, by E. Stanley Jones, Lucknow Publishing House, 1998, pp 187, paperback. A missionary of the Student Volunteer Movement, Jones presented Christ to high society Indians at the turn of the century, and gained quite a listening audience through his daring question and answer lecture format.
  • Living Water and Indian Bowl: An Analysis of Christian Failings in Communicating Christ to Hindus, with Suggestions Toward Improvements, by Dayanand Bharati, ISPCK, 2001, pp 264, paperback. For the more advanced evangelist, this book presents radical but compelling ideas on how to encourage Hindus to become "Khrist bhaktas" (Christ devotees) rather than merely westernized Christians in India.
  • Shri Krist Gita, by Dhanjibhai Fakirbhai, Pilot Books, pp 122, paperback. Following the tradition of the Hindu devotional guide. Professor Dhanjibhai Fakirbhai brings us this beautiful song of the Lord Christ. Patterned after the Hindu Bhagavad Gita, these fifteen "yogas" and eight discourses, all very short and easy to read and meditate on, make this an ideal gift book for Hindus considering Christ.
  • Missionaries in India, by Arun Shourie, ASA Publications, 1994, pp 305, paperback. A must-read for those who want to know what Hindus think of Christianity. This book will make you hopping mad, because of its distortions and prejudices. But it will also fill you with a desire to refute the lies with the truth.
