I’d definitely be driving in South Dakota with all the nice, wide-open country and listening to contemporary Christian or 50’s music. Something lively.

What is your favorite book, and why?
My favorite book is Kathryn Stockett’s novel, “The Help.” Instead of simply telling the story, Stockett places the reader inside the story subject’s shoes through her use of detail, imagery and clarity. Stockett received 60 rejection letters over three and a half years in pursuit of publishing “The Help.” And yet, she never gave up. Stockett showed me what it is like to be a fearless writer and to take risks.

Putting lids on Cool Whip containers in Minnesota (age 14) as a temp job.

Attending a university of choice and getting my Master's in Creative Writing, then working on a PhD.
