I was nurse Emily Moser’s first houseguest.
She had recently moved into a new apartment, and by the time we arrived there after meeting each other for the first time at the airport, it felt like we were old friends. We became even closer over the next few days, as I went to work with her, ate meals with her, and met her parents, co-workers and bosses. I even met the man she started dating soon after I left.
We bonded over our common mission to help people know Christ, no matter our location or profession. We were involved in ministry together.
After one day of following Emily around the hospital floor, watching her care for patients and interact with co-workers, we were both exhausted. Emily’s shift had begun at 6 a.m., and we were both excited for a home-cooked meal at her parents’ house. And it didn’t disappoint—pot roast, vegetables, potatoes and strawberry shortcake.
So I may have been Emily’s first houseguest, but I already felt like part of the family.
