Back Story: On Track

Jay Miller

I sat on the hard gym floor at 6 a.m., watching Jay Miller with a dance team of girls and guys practicing. Some of the guys had neon-green or neon-blue tights on with black shorts. I giggled to myself as I remembered how I enjoyed dressing ridiculously loud in high school. As a teen, I had spent hours in the high-school gym with my drill team practicing dance moves and routines, and even choreographing them. We had red-and-white uniforms. I wanted to be unique, so on my vest, my name was spelled “Jhan.” The “h” was silent. Coming out of the time warp, I enjoyed the scene before me from a writer’s point of view, a bit bleary-eyed at 6 a.m., but having a good time.
