Sid Tate has always been a mover and shaker. The former bank president from Greenville, S.C., says, “There was no obstacle I couldn’t overcome.” Then a life-threatening family illness and heartbreaking divorce proved otherwise. In the midst of his pain, Sid (left) wrote to a friend, chronicling his woes. “It was an ‘I’m a victim’ e-mail,” he says.

The advice he got back was direct: “Get right with God. Nothing else matters.” Shortly thereafter, Sid attended a Bible study directed by Campus Crusade for Christ’s ministry to executives. He found a home among the 60 executives who regularly meet together.

Sid embraced the opportunity to grow and responded to an invitation to be a volunteer leader and to mentor young executives. Since then, his influence has extended far beyond Greenville. He traveled to Honduras to help build fresh-water wells and explain the gospel with a water-well mission outreach called Water of Life. He next helped drill wells in the African country of Liberia and currently serves as Water of Life’s chairman, which has teamed up with others in the body of Christ to plant 30 churches in that country.

“The Great Commission of Christ has grabbed me,” he says. Sid is still a mover and shaker, yet he is now energized by a purpose that is changing eternity.
