Three vans bring people to New Song Christian Fellowship each week from neighborhoods in inner-city Milwaukee. When they board, children receive a breakfast bar, a box of juice, and, later, a sack lunch—the only meal some eat on the weekends, says Roy Bowen, senior pastor.
But at Easter, these kids also receive a present, thanks to a partnership with Campus Crusade for Christ’s Here’s Life Inner City. Each Easter bag includes candy, crayons, a toy and words explaining Jesus’ life-changing love.
“Who cares enough about these kids to give them a gift?” says Pastor Bowen. “It is not a food box that goes to the family. That Easter bag belongs to the child.”
In Milwaukee last year, 860 kids received Easter bags. Here’s Life Inner City hopes to distribute 15,000 bags nationwide this Easter.
